A History of BrandonFisher.com...
V4: Brushed Metal |
| |
Circa 2001-2002: At some point
in the summer of 2001, Brandon got the idea that he'd like the next
BrandonFisher.com to have a brushed metal look. Then, as he
was refining the design, he got the idea that links could be placed
in holes punched through the brushed metal. As a
finishing touch, the brushed metal plate that makes up the site's
navigation could be bolted down. After searching the web for
some brushed metal surfaces, and some time in Photoshop,
presto! A finishing touch as construction was being completed
was the addition of screws that spun around when the user's
mouse was hovering over one of the links on the left.
There weren't a lot of new features in this version of
BrandonFisher.com -- the big change was the "fresh" look and
feel. There was a poll on the front page asking users to vote
on the next theme for BrandonFisher.com (Asian, 70's, Space/Science,
Lounge). If you're interested, it was pretty close between the
70's theme and the lounge theme... But as you've seen, none of
these themes were ultimately chosen.
This version of BrandonFisher.com used a pop up box to prompt the
user to enter a screen name. The screen name was never saved
at or used by BrandonFisher.com, but it was saved in a cookie on
the user computer -- and would be used to personalize the site for the
user.
Also, this was the first version of BrandonFisher.com to offer
hosted message boards and web polls for use by other websites. |
